The worlds easiest Octopus heat pump install

Hi, I’m new to all this.

Seconding the request for pictures.

I’m having a real headache with a cosy 12 that was installed on Friday.

I’d be worried that undamped springs like that might lead to vibration in the unit that could kill bearings.

Did you try putting something heavy in the machine to act as a mass damper?

I will send photos once I able to confirm with tech team. (Or I don’t hear for them for over 2 weeks). It wont be something customers are comfortable (or expected?) to have to do really. But I am very much enjoying being able to run it at night.

Such springs are very common in other HVAC equipment, you have to match them for the load, damping and frequency.

I’ve seen another user on Facebook with a leg kit now, which has upgraded rubber feet that seems to completely solved his issue. :+1:

The flashing feedback has reached octopus for my one.

These things are super tricky to predict and deal with, I’m very glad octopus are on it, the solution may well be very different for your particular issue.

I still have not heard from the tech team. I will wait for a basic contact with them before I post the images.

It’s been confirmed the leg kit mk II is now rubberised, so should help.

What is the latest with your Cosy/the base/the flashing? Could you post a photo, and how did it perform when we had the cold period a few weekends ago? (It’s lovely and warm now!)

Quite a few people I know through a facebook group struggling to even get a response from Octopus…

I want to get some more evidence that the fan was the cause on my system, so I am waiting to get the fan swapped, which is not super easy to coordinate.

I haven’t bothered to swap it to the sprung legs yet. The noise is still there, but obviously miles better than it was. It will still wake you up on a ramp, but in other modes it’s much better.

Performance and running costs are great, well above SpF 4 and expect that to go up.

I showed the tech on-site the flashing on both case and fan.

Had a few runs with the new hush mode now.

Seems to have helped my noise issue, it’s only been a few hours but fingers crossed this may be a resolve. Output looks capped at 8.4kW heat. Don’t think this house needs that much ever so bodes well.

Performance is also improved, again.

The fan seems better controlled, and the compressor also sounds like it’s running differently.

So, I think that’s it now… quite pleased. Unbelievable for the price really :+1:.

I’ve still not had the fan swapped, so can’t say definitively what the solve is.

I called octopus today since I’ve not really heard from them since March.

I then got an email essentially gaslighting me saying they checked the account and visits and they don’t mention anything about the noise level of the heat pump.

They are an appalling company. Their attitude to problems is putting their heads in the sand and hoping they’ll go away. They should rename themselves Ostrich Energy. One year on and we’re still in dispute. I’m just glad I didn’t pay the final invoice yet.

I hope no-one ever uses Octopus for heat pumps. It’s just not worth it.

The phone support is good. I suspect there is a bit of a gap between octopus aftercare and octopus energy services. So this kind of issues falls in the gap.

Ocotpus have offered..drumroll please… To try some flexis :joy:.

Unfortunately the unit already has those.

Have you considered installing these FlexEJ joints? I’m sure Jason is on here who had them installed on his Vaillant. It’s crossed my mind for my setup where I had the flexi hoses removed - they can cause a restriction and introduce noise themselves.

In my specific case there isn’t much transmission through the pipes, it’s mainly through the base into the foundation of house (it’s beam and block).

When you install regular flexi is there is a bit of a knack to getting the isolation right, you can’t just lay them straight and then immediately after the flexible part you need a solid connection to a solid member.

Not sure if you’ve seen this recent HeatGeek video, but lots of good advice about isolation, and how vibration travels and turns into sound.

That why steal beams in homes should always have the gaps filled with brick offcuts mortar into the beams as it removes most resident frequencies.

That’s interesting as our house is also block and beam construction. I wonder if I’m also chasing a similar issue with resonance through the floor rather than via the pipework. Although, when touching the pipework I can feel vibration. Not sure how you’d necessarily isolate one over the other causing issues?
