What api-enabled device would you recommend for energy monitoring AC 220v?

I have testet d-link smart plug, which has it’s own app but no option for interfacing with the data. I am also researching the HS110 from TS-link, but haven’t found a any info about an api.

I would like to log the energy consumption to a google spreadsheet, minute by minute as a start.

I came across this diy solution, might also go that route, but it would be great to find something off the shelf to save time and headaches.
