I can’t comment on the room temperature issue as I’m using pure weather compensation. If I remember correctly, ECO setback switches the heat pump fully off until some outdoor/indoor temperature conditions are met, whereas normal reduces the flow temperature.
I have mine on Normal, but I don’t use setback currently. I might experiment with it again but there are several reasons I don’t do it:
Slow response: with how slowly the house heats back up, I’d have maybe 4-6 hours of setback tops if I want my desired temperature when we wake up.
Humidity concerns: My house is really quite airtight and we have a lot of plants in the living room. This is not an issue if I ventilate properly before going to bed. If then the heating is also on setback, I fear I will get to critical humidity levels with the lower temperature in the house.
The house would cool by maybe 2°C from 21°C to 19°C when it’s 0°C outside (less in the living room directly after 5-10 minutes of heavy ventilation followed by setback), so the expected savings are relatively low. Sometimes my wife might get up earlier and I don’t want her to come into a colder living room. Overall this is a comfort decision. I have optimized every other aspect and don’t want to sacrifice in this area.
