Updating firmware (Heat Pump Monitor)

I have updated my system but it states the firmware is not included. The screenshot shows the information in firmware update section. Do I have to change any of this data before I start a firmware update?

It depends on what your system comprises and what you are updating. If you have only an emonPi (original, now often called the emonPi1) or emonBase, then look here Firmware — OpenEnergyMonitor 0.0.1 documentation and Select port: ttyAMA0 and Hardware: emonPi

If your system also comprises other things sending data to your emonCMS, what are those? If you have one or more emonTx or emonTH, you must use the same Radio format as those devices, or upgrade those to use the (default, now standard) RFM69 LowPowerLabs format. There is only one choice of software to match the radio format.

If you have an emonPi2, then it is much the same except you choose emonPi2, but you also need to choose the firmware that fits your hardware configuration. More details here: Firmware — OpenEnergyMonitor 0.0.1 documentation

If you do want to upgrade other things, you’d better ask before you proceed with the emonPi.

Thanks for your reply.

I have Level 3 (COP): Flow rate & Heat metering. It has been installed a couple of years now ( installed by Octopus ) so not sure what version of Pi is installed. How do I find this out so I can use your instructions.

You should have said that to start with. I have now added “Heat Pump Monitor” to the topic title. If it was bought from our shop, on-line support is included in the price you paid (maybe via Octopus). The Heat Pump Monitor is subtly different from a standard emonCMS, and as far as I know/can recall, neither a download nor a full list of changes has been published.

[Edit - I knew I had seen a change but couldn’t find it.]
A change I know about is this: “Heat Pump Monitor emonPi2 has the emonLibCM version without the requirement for the emonVs as its default software (the emonVs is not normally included with the emonHP), the CT is only normally used for domestic hot water detection and the accuracy of the measurement was not important, hence current only/apparent power is fine.”
It is possible there are other changes, including to software, I am not aware of.
[/Edit]

I think you have probably not broken your heat pump monitor so far, but if you continue and download one of the standard emonPi2 options, you may well do. I suggest you email The Shop [email protected]

There is no firmware update for the emonHP. It does not run any updatable firmware. There is no microcontroller like on the emonPi or emonTx.

Thanks for that information, no need to be concerned going forward.
