Does anyone have any generic tips on selecting a heat pump aware underfloor heating installer? I know there are a few details that need consideration (as discussed on other posts).

What approximate hourly/daily rate is generally reasonable for this sort of work?

Has anyone had any experience, good or otherwise, with underfloor heating installers in the Devon/Cornwall area?

Sorry, I can’t answer this directly; our UFH was included as part of a much bigger renovation quote - and we had our suspended floor replaced with concrete + insulation + underfloor heating as part of it. This was before we decided to get a heat pump.

Some things I wish I had known in advance:

  1. Smallest spacing you can manage - we had 200mm, but I wish we had 150mm or 100mm
  2. Ask for a diagram of the planned install in advance. I believe our subcontractor used JG Speedfit online tool but then didn’t pay for a plan, so it wasn’t the best install.
  3. I have heard that a snail shell pattern is better than zigzag
  4. Make sure they put in insulated up stands - where the UFH meets the wall
  5. We accidentally had a really thick screed - this has actually been good as it added a lot of thermal mass

The plumbing install process itself wasn’t very complex - the plumber and a labourer twisting pipes about for a day. Then our builder did the screed over the top.
