Type 1, 3 pin EV charging

Hi all,

I’ve bought a sit-in EV (as opposed to a sit-on EV, an ebike) and am looking at charging solutions. I want to charge flexibly and take advantage of a solar array and an agile electricity tariff. I also have a domestic battery, which I don’t want to empty into the car, but could use to smooth out generation bumps on days with variable sunshine.

The EV is used 2/3 times a week, so there’s plenty of time for trickle charging between drives. Is charging a task happily handled by a three pin socket and a 10 A charger, controlled by a sonoff plug and demand shaper? Or do I need an OpenEVSE? If the latter, is this for safety, ease of control or other reason?

Your opinions appreciated.
