Hi, new user of a heat pump in a new build. Been using it for the last two months always set to the same temperature between 20 and 22. I still feel cold at night and in the morning. How to set up weather curve on my heat pump which is a Panasonic WH-MDC05J3E5? Please help! I would be very appreciated
Hello & welcome to the forum!
Do you think the heat pump is achieving your set temperatures of 20-22 degrees - at least in the space where the thermostat is?
If so, are you thinking that other parts of the house are cooler than this?
Or perhaps you’d like the house overall warmer than 22 degrees.
Perhaps you could deploy some thermometers around the house and give us some more pointers.
All the best, David.
Hi, so sorry for the late reply.
No i dont think its achieving those temps.
I have been tweaking the settings and i think i messed up. I really need help to set up compensation curve and whatever needs doing.
Is there a way i can pay you and you could help me through messages?
Thank you
What seems to work well here is if you post a specific question then some people will chip in with advice that should help you to develop understanding of how your new heat pump works in your house.
They are complicated machines and have loads of inter-dependent setup parameters. It can be daunting at first but if you take it one step at a time and do lots of reading then you will get there.
I’ve never seen a Panasonic heat pump (mines a Daikin) so I know nothing of the specifics of that system, but I’m sure there will be parallels between manufacturers.
I’m not aware of any mechanism for charging for advice here and that’s not something that motivates me. I’m happy to help where I can with your journey as others here have helped me.
Hope this helps, David.
Hi, thanks for your reply
Hopefully someone with Panasonic knowledge will be able to help me.
I honestly thought all heat pumps work kinda the same way
I agree, heat pumps do all work in the same principles, but the menu structures and terms used vary between manufacturers.
For the weather/compensation curve, wouldn’t be the same values as other heat pumps?
- I’m not familiar with Panasonics, but can you not ask your installer to help you with this?
- Your operating manual https://webshop.kinnan.dk/upload_dir/shop/Brugsanvisning_-WH-MDC0579J3E5.pdf seems a lot more user-friendly than some other makes (e.g. my Samsung manual didn’t survive translation from Korean too well). It appears that (I’m looking at p30) once you are in Installer mode, under Heat settings you want to start with something like X1 = -2degC, Y1 = 50degC, and X2 = 15degC, Y2 = 35degC. These appear to be very easy to set using the left/right and up/down buttons. Once you have this setup operating OK you can slowly reduce Y1 until the heat pump keeps your house just warm enough even when it’s sub zero outside.
- If all else fails, is there a UK Panasonic agent you can telephone?
There is no mechanism. We work on the basis that members freely contribute their ideas, knowledge and experience in the hope that everyone will ultimately benefit (the only restriction being the terms under which the forum operates – see the Code of Conduct) and that members who learn from the help and advice they receive will in turn support and pass on their knowledge and experience, and ultimately contribute to society in general.
Good!
Yes, that’s it exactly.
The “equation” those particular values gives between -2degC and 15degC ambient temperature is LWT = 48.24 - (0.882 x ambient temperature). Below -2degC ambient LWT will be 50degC; above 15degC ambient LWT will be 35degC.
You can test that this is being correctly applied by looking at the ambient temperature and the LWT on your display at any time the HP is running. The actual LWT you see should be the same as you can calculate from the above equation.
(PS forgive me if it sounds like I’m teaching you to suck eggs - readers of this forum have hugely different backgrounds and knowledge, and I tend to pitch my posts for the less experienced…)
