Solar PV + battery - do I need a diverter?

  1. If you have more PV kWp than the battery is able to absorb.
  2. If you are concerned about round-trip efficiency of the battery (you can measure this - with AC coupled PV, mine has significant losses)
  3. If you are concerned about the total lifespan (joules of throughput) of the battery cells.
  4. If/when the battery goes offline.

I asked myself the same question when I added a battery to the system, but I’m pleased I kept it and the Mk2router remains a useful part of my total system.
