Serial connection btw EmonTx and rpi 4

Hello guys please i have been trying to figure out why i can not view my readings on the emoncms feed or input view.
i have connected the emontx to a rpi 4b as shown in the picture. since i did not have a female to female connector i made use of breadboard.

however, i still can not get a reading on the input view or feed view n emoncms.

please how can i configure this to get it sorted out?
thanks

A long thread, I know, but tells you everything! EmonTX to Rpi - Direct Serial Connection

First step is to use miniterm to check what is being received on the serial input (if anything).

$ miniterm /dev/ttyAMA0 115200

Remember to stop emonhub first.

[edit]
Did you make changes to emonhub for the serial connection?

Can you post the config and the log?

You haven’t fallen for the very big problem that continues to confuse everyone?

Tx and Rx are swapped on the emonTx pcb, so as I’ve written so many times here, the emonTx is sending data on the pin labelled “Rx”, and it’s looking for data coming in on the pin labelled “Tx”. That’s contrary to convention (unless the emonTx is a modem!) This applies to all except the EmonTx V3.2 and the Heatpump board.

If you’ve followed the instructions for connecting the emonTx to the RPi carefully and accurately, you should be OK. If you thought they were wrong - it’s you who is wrong :face_with_hand_over_mouth:.

Thanks for the response.

i am having a read at the post. Aslo i do not know where or when to use the miniterm :thinking:

no i did not make any changes to emonhub for the serial connection , did not know i had to do that.

this is the log

what can i do next?
thanks

thanks for your feedback, pleqase where can i see post you have written on the swapped Tx and Rx.

also i have tried to take a picture of the emonTx and rpi up-close to show how i connected it.

did i do it wrong?

Is your serial port enable on the RPI 4??
Enable uart5 for Serial hardware to be enabled.
SSH into the RPI4
Run command: ls -l /dev/ttyA*

sudo nano /boot/config.txt
dtoverlay=uart5
/dev/ttyAMA0
/dev/ttyAMA1

i have been able to run the ls -l /dev/ttyA* and sudo nano /boot/config.txt commands on RPI 4

am i to add the

dtoverlay=uart5
/dev/ttyAMA0
/dev/ttyAMA1

on a new line or change one of the dtoverlay in the config?

i have just edited the config file and modified the interfacers

now i get some readings on the input page

my Log now logs in 3 values

am i on the right path? and how do i get other values because i can see it reads without even connecting a Ct sensor

No, you need to power down the TX and Pi, connect the CT and then power back up to get the readings.

thanks that fixed it. i now see reading of P and E as well.

please can do you know where i can learn how to calibrate the ct sensor?

thank you for your help

Look in the ‘Learn’ section. There is a lot of very useful background information on many aspects of energy monitoring there. Look around to see the sort of information there is, then go to “Electricity Monitoring → Current & Voltage”. The full instructions are there.
