Recommendations for FTDI programmers available in the EU (Italy)

Hi guys,

I need to find an FTDI programmer urgenlty to access the serial port on various devices (Specifically emonTH) and to possibly update the firmware. I’m trying to find an equivalent one on Amazon, but it’s quite hard to understand which ones will be compatible. I’ve already tried two and they came with very different pin-outs and if I modified the layout to match the device, it still didn’t work I think.

Does anyone have recommendations? (I can order one from the shop in the UK, but it takes many days for deliveries from there).

Here:

Here in the UK and in Italy, RS offers what appears to be the same thing under two stock numbers 150 - 1561 & 150 - 1570 - one is “Each” and the other “1 bag of one”. The difference - I don’t know.

You can just use a Raspberry Pi (or similar) if you have one to hand?

Not if it’s one of the old (emonTH or emonTH2) ones.

Ah, sorry Rob, I just meant connecting the two using jumper wires not actually connecting it directly board to board like in that picture! :slight_smile:

Am I right that you are looking for a USB FTDI programmer? (USB on one end, 6-pin UART board header on the other.)

My favorite is the USB BUB III.

Digital Smarties is in the UK, I believe.

Here it is plugged into an emonTH. (I would take the batteries out before I plugged in the other end.)

I would think he has got one from RS Components in Italy by now.
