OVMS ZE1 (40kWh & 64kWh 2018+) Nissan LEAF CAN tap cable available

OVMS now supports the ZE1 Nissan LEAF (40kWh & 64kWh 2018+)

However, currently this requires a custom CAN tap cable to bypass the CAN gateway on the, see docs: Nissan Leaf/e-NV200 — Open Vehicles documentation

We’ve had a sample of cable required manufactured:

This cable neeeds to be plugged in behind the instrument cluster, see instructions on the docs link above.

If anyone would like to test this cable I can include it FoC with an OVMS order. Please drop me an email [email protected]

Nissan LEAFS pre 2018 are (ZE0 & AZE0 24kWh/30kWh) are supported using a normal ODB2 cable.

This is very timely since Nissan is shutting down built in connectivity and the NissanConnect EV app this month the 30th March. This effects all LEAFS up to May 2019 and all e-NV200s until 2022.

Update: cable has now been claimed :+1:

Hopefully, it will all go well and then we can proceed to order more. Drop us an email or reply to this thread if you would like to get on a waiting list.

Hi Glyn,

I’d be interested. Having our e-NV200 delivered today. This is a whole new world for me.

The e-NV200 doesn’t require this CAN Tap cable. You can use the standard ovms Nissan odb2 cable.

This will give full functionality including remote climate controll. It’s just the 40kWh and 64kW Leaf that requires this special cable.

put me on the waiting list please. Any idea how much the cable might cost?

Hi,

I would like to join the waiting list for the ZE1 cable.

I have a 2019 Nissan Leaf e+.

I am also planning to purchase the OVMS module.

Thank you.

@beeblebrox sure, will do. We’re aiming for the cost the be similar to the other OVMS ODB2 ables

@standard61m Will do

Hi, another ZE1 Leaf owner here looking to purchase an OVMS with the imminent shutdown of the Nissan EV app. Are you able to supply the CAN tap cable (even at extra cost) ? I would like to buy ASAP.

Hey, I’m also eagerly awaiting the cable for a 2018 Leaf that’s being shut down on March 30th.

Are there any indications of how long it will take until the cable is available?

Alternatively, I’m happy to build the cable myself, I just don’t understand the example wiring diagram.

Is there a more understandable wiring diagram for the cable?

Thanks so much for your support and this great project!

Dieter

We’re still in the process of getting a CAN TAP cable tested and manufactured. I’m hopeful we should have some more units available in the next month or so, I’ll keep this thread updated.

Hi, I’m currently on the waiting list for the ZE1 CAN tap cable.

I’m looking for a complete OVMS setup for Nissan Leaf ZE1,
including the CAN tap cable.

Used is perfectly fine.
If anyone has a full set available, I would really appreciate it.

Thank you!

The e-nv’s that are 40kwh. To those need this cable or does the standard one still work?

Correct, standard ODB2 cable will work for e-NV200

I own a ZE1 40kWh from march 2019. Could you put me on the waiting list as well? Thanks

Do you need the standard or Nissan ODB2 cable to this?

Hi! I’d love to be on the waiting list as well!

Thanks

Please add me as well. Really frustrated that Nissan stopped their EV connect without alternative for the ZE1

One more for the list please

I emailed Nissan to say that this deprecation has lost them a customer. I won’t be buying another car from a manufacturer who removes a feature from it during its life-cycle.

It’s only just acceptable to have built-in obsolescence in a mobile phone, but in a car? I don’t think so.

However, I fear that increasing use of cloud resources will make long service life a thing of the past. Self driving car anyone?
