Open Victron community

Hey, I’m thinking of trying to create a space where victron users can post that’s not moderated by the corporate entity that is community victron com.

The space would be intended to actually hold victron accountable to their OSINO.

I know that would be a fair bit of extra drag on a forum of this quality. So I wanted to ask if the community here would be welcoming the idea or if it’s preferable to find another solution.

Ive been attempting to do that in my limited capacity as user bachete on the victron forum, unfortunately I’ve been all but banned. My posts are being removed and I’ve been asked to keep it quiet by the mod leadership.

My idea is that if there is a community of posters who do want to share “illegal integrations” if there is a space for them here.

A secondary aspect is research into the forbidden subjects like firmware encryption and firmware modifications with RTR in mind

I spent some time working with super-b and Redarc batteries, finding controlled obscelesence in the firmware which is unencrypted and available to download, I falsely assumed that users were able to do custom mods and share and that the community would appreciate such endeavours.

I built an aggregator that appeared to be quite popular, till I saw corporate linking to it (unsure which corporation) and salted my code.

I’ve been reaching out for months about a few other things, but mostly trying to acertain the licensing intentions, a particular aspect is that none of their packaged applications appear to contain any valid licenses.

Under gpl the argument that because no license is provided, all rights are reserved. However since the license of open source elements comprises of a majority of the bundled software, and no license is included, the implication is that the proprietary elements are included under fair use law and can be redistributed and modified.im sure that victron will pursue to the fullest capacity of the law.

From my personal research, I did not find any robustness in the firmware encryption model and while research is still preliminary, I do invoke the RTR elements that say that Dc low voltage systems, are consumer appliances and are peripheral elements of batteries which are explicitly protected as an element to be repaired. The reverse engineering is a protected act under this logic and attempts at obfuscation are not allowed.

In the end I’m just a noob who likes to take things apart, I use AI like Gemini cli, claud code etc to do my research and work with me. I’m not infallible, and really just want to understand more about what’s going on.

Hope that’s not too much, and if it is, that’s why I used the sandbox MOD.

Hope to hear back, or if there are suggestions where else I / we can go for this…. besides Reddit.

Thanks

Dru
