A friend is having a heat pump installed by Octopus and he has asked for an Open Energy monitor system to be installed. They say they will not do it.
Has anyone had a monitor installed by Octopus? - I see there are several systems showing on heatpumpmonitor.org
Hi octopus installed my heat pump last week and they installed all the heat monitoring kit for me.
I greed it with the octopus project manager before hand they only insisted that I used the bigger flow sensor as they were concerned, the smaller one would restrict flow on the primary circuit.
I believe this wouldn’t be the case but went along with their request
Also they wanted a copy of the installation manual before they would agree to fit this for me

Thank you - that is a very good respone from Octopus.
I will pass the information on
Hi Hugh,
Octopus installed my level3 kit when installing my heatpump in summer 2024. Previously, my account handler at Octopus HQ said they wouldn’t do it.
But before the installation team arrived I had already wired up the heat meter and the SDM120 electricity meter to the Pi and tested that all the signalling was working and logging to emoncms.org.
So all that remained for Octopus to do was to fit the heat meter into the pipework.
I think this made it seem that I wasn’t asking a lot of the installation team.
I asked the person who was arranging my Octopus install if they would fit the OE Level 3 kit and was told no. I bought the kit anyway and when the install team arrived I asked them if they would plumb in the heat montior and add the electrical meter in the additional consumer unit. They checked with their manager who said yes. To reduce the impact on them I wired it all up after they had finished.
Thanks - I think that gives my friend enough information to get Octopus to fit the system. He has just sent them another email.
That’s great to hear.
Has anyone fitted a monitor to a Cosy yet
Octopus have now agreed to fit the monitor - thanks for all your help on this. My friend is having a 9Kw Daikin fitted.
Given Octopus have just removed ability to set weather compensation curve on Cosy heatpumps yourself, will anyone who is commited enough to have a heat meter be willing to have a cosy heatpump?
Also as Cosy Heatpump is designed for undersized radators with a poor COP for correctly sized radiators or UFH, “people like us” are likely to choose a different heatpump.
I’d love to know how true to life the data I’m scraping from their API is, L3 monitoring was a step too far for the team who installed mine.
I would like them to have a policy they will plumb in the heat meter and connecter the electricity meter but do nothing else with monitoring setups.
That’s a shame, it would be great to get some data on a Cosy. As yet I don’t think anyone has installed a heat meter on a cosy HP. It’s great you can get that data from the API, shame there’s no flow and return temp data.
