Noisy central heating since Vaillant aroTHERM plus 7 installation

Has anyone had experience with noisy central heating system since heat pump installation. Is there a known fix?

The majority of our central heating system is same as it was when we had combi boiler but since we installed vaillant aroTHERM plus 7, our radiators and pipe work are noisy when heating is on. We never had this before heat pump install. Sounds as if the flow rate is too high. Its very annoying.

Would also be interested to know if radiators require balancing with heat pump or can the lockshields be fully opened?

Would appreciate any thoughts and advice on this

Usually the lockshields would be fully open. If the flow temp is right and the weather curve is good and the rads are the right size for the room, there’s no need to restrict flow. The only radiator I set the lockshield to 1/3 open was the first in the loop but that was mainly to provide enough flow for the attic room rad that wouldn’t heat otherwise.

I found my Daikin’s flow rate (and pump noise) way too much and reduced it to 60% in the installer settings. Almost silent now and still more than enough flow to deliver the heat required even on the coldest days.

Very helpful and much appreciated Chris. Thank you ever so much for the advice.

By default, the Vaillant flow rate is set to “auto”, which is full throttle. On the indoor controller (not the room thermostat), you can set the flow rate by tuning the Max.Rem.Head setting in the installer options (Code: 17). Default is 900 (max), redzcing this will reduce the flowrate. Pay attention: lowering it too much will prevent the heat pump from working, but you’ll notice that and can just raise the value again. Work your way down gradually (e.g. steps of 50 mbar) until it’s quiet enough but the house still warm.

I had a loud shunting noise (on and offf noise) with my Vaillant system. I found it to be caused by a basic TRV in a downstairs toilet. There is not a problem if it is fully off or on.

How did it go with the adjstment? I’m strongly considering the Vaillant for a new install but worried about the indoor noise as well. I also read somewhare that they only adjust DT, not the circulation pump relative to load, so is this just capping the maximum flow?
