From what I can tell, it uses a twin rotary compressor from the midea/Toshiba joint venture. The Grant unit uses a similar one from the same supplier. It will be interesting to see if it does a similar oil recovery cycle.
Interesting, yes it’s very similar to the 4 kW Grant, if not exactly the same minimum electrical power and the heat/cop differences here are likely just outside temp and flow temp differences.
The min modulation was a snapshot in time for the grant units? How do you take this? Also, when looking at some of the dashboards, is it possible to add minimum modulation below the ‘HP electric consumption’ - I’m guess this should ignore anything lower than 100w.
@Cillian_Cahill the minimum modulation measurements are carefully selected. You want to find a period of stable running above 10C outside temperature (above 10C to avoid low COP minimum modulation when it’s really cold). E.g between 8:20 and 8:50 am here the heat pump is running nice and stable and the outside temperature is 11.7C: It’s important to avoid transients such as the dip in output around 8:10am including that would give an artificially low minimum output.
We dont have the max output test for the 6kW S2060 yet. The datasheet seems to suggest 6.3 kW output without taking into account defrosts. So what do we expect maybe ~80% = 5 kW safe output including defrosts in freezing fog conditions?
Looking at the systems where we do have min and max tests, the average ratio between max and min is 2.5x and the best around 3.7x. If the S2060 succeeds in hitting a max output including defrosts of 5 kW that would result in a real world modulation range of 4.5x which would be a record and very impressive!

@Cillian_Cahill yes absolutely, and we very much welcome that! Once you are up and running, you can submit test results yourself, you just zoom into the area of interest in the dashboard and then click the share button top-right. That create a link with start and end timestamps which you can then enter on the heat pump database page for your make/model.
Interesting, what’s the source of this info? I’ve been trying to figure out what compressor Grant use, but I’ve not seen it listed anywhere. It would be fascinating to compile a list of which heat pumps use which compressor. As far as I’m aware, there’s only a few manufacturers of R290 compressors, so there’s probably a lot of compressor sharing going on.
Also interested… This S2060 looks like the R290 MHI Ezy series (which is supposed to modulate even lower, according to data sheets), just like the preceding F2050 looked a lot like the R32 MHI Ezy. MHI does manufacture compressors too I assume, could it be they have their own compressor model?
