Measuring Oil flow to home heating boiler

Many thanks Phil - that’s really helpful. Did you assume (and is it a correct assumption?) that the flow per second through the burner jet is always the same?

Yes it should be but obviously different for different boilers makes. The flow rate should be in the manual for the boiler.

Phil

Thank you!

Hello Tom, came across this post and used it to create my own setup
All working BUT have a couple of problems

  1. Logging time seems to not stop when boiler watts are low. Counts non burning time as well as when boiler is active
  2. How did you to the last bit, calc oil usage and coundown of tank capacity?

Did not want to reinvent the wheel so though worth asking;-)
great idea using Shelly power monitor
All best,
Nick

Hi

Just came across this post and wanted to share how I measure my usage. I’ve a simple time clock wired in to the live going to the motor on the burner. Based on my nozzle being .85usg/h I just work it out for one hour running I burn 3.2 litres of oil. Time clocks are only around 20 euro in any electrical supplier.

Hope this helps someone
