Issue with emoncms.org server (Sat 15th)

Checking a few accounts here and the data is only starting from 13:00, so doesn’t seem emonHub managed to cache locally and restore the missing hours. I definitely need to look at that and get that working more robustly!

@TrystanLea All back and running here. EmonPi gradually backfilling the missing data from this morning - just half an hours worth left to upload. Strange DNS failure - all other sites I tried were OK - and my NIBE heat pump data was uploading OK to NIBE myuplink. Shame I can’t change the default DNS server on my BT hub to one that is more reliable.

Same for me. I lost emoncms.org just after 5 am with it coming back up just after 1 pm.
Sadly, no data showing during the down time so I will have to see if it appears but I fear it is gone. But at least it is back.

Thanks to Trystan for keeping us all informed.

@TrystanLea, add a configuraton option to the network settings that enables a user
to define the DNS server they’d like that device to use.

There are several free DNS server options available.

  • 9.9.9.9
  • 208.67.222.222
  • 208.67.220.220
  • 8.8.8.8
  • 8.8.4.4
  • 1.1.1.1

are some that come to mind ATM.

DNS name resolution can be per device as well as per network.

If a user is comfortable with and knows how to, change the network setting manually, they can specify the DNS server they wish to use for that particular device without making changes that would affect the rest of their LAN.

A config option built into the software would make it easier for those who
don’t want to take a chance they might “mess things up.”
