I’ve checked a few times now over the last month and maybe I’m just unlucky but there never seems to be any emonPi2 units in stock. What’s the plan for getting some orderable units?
As far as I am aware, there will be no more emonPi2s manufactured. Its successor, the emonPi3, is quite different internally – using a different and more powerful processor for the power and energy measurements while still using a Raspberry Pi to handle the data recording and user interface aspects – and the development team is busy ironing out the last few bugs. No release date has been set.
ETA is early next month, emonPi3s have already been manufactured. But the delay has been manufacture of the emonVs voltage sense power supply which is finally due to start in a couple of weeks, supplier component shortages have resulted in this taking much longer than planned ![]()
The emonPi3 with function the same as the emonPi2, and will look nearly identical. The user shouldn’t notice much difference. But under the hood is a much more modern powerful (future-proof) microprocessor.
We’ll drop you a message once we have availability.
Is there a new emonTx6 too or just the emonPi3?
Is the emonPi3 going to be built around the Raspberry Pi 5? If so, an NVMe option would be nice but I understand the daughterboard is probably an issue.
I understand there will be, it’s the same P.C.B in both, but I also understand that although there is provision in the design for an expander board for a further 6 channels, no connector will be fitted and no expander boards will be manufactured - at least initially, due to the low take-up so far with the emonTx5 & emonPi2.
Yes, there will be a new emonTx.
The pi5 can be used, but it won’t be the standard offering. The pi4 is already overkill for emoncms! But there’s nothing stopping you using a pi5
