Installation advice - Samsung EHS Mono R290 Gen 7 Pump

I am planning a substantial home renovation project which will include building a side-return kitchen extension and more significantly replacing the current gas boiler and hot water tank with the following.

EHS Mono R290 Gen 7 (with pump and expansion tank built-in)

I am also planning on using the Samsung Climate Hub (for hot water) and I am presuming the following model will be compatible.

Heating will be via new cast iron radiators replacing old and presumably too small steel radiators.

Is anyone able to answer the following questions?

  • Is the AE200CNWMEG/EU Mono ClimateHub compatible with this model ASHP?
  • Taking in to consideration that the EHS Mono R290 Gen 7 Pump has the pump and expansion tank and so on built-in and the ClimateHub is also pre-plumbed, what else has to be added and hence would take up additional space?
  • Would having the ClimateHub located in the kitchen on the ground floor be ok since the bathrooms will be on the 1st and 2nd floors?
  • Should I fit pumps to the showers?

Great to hear you’re considering installing a heat pump!

Yes, I believe it is. But would avoid using it. It’s very overpriced for what it is and contains kit you don’t need e.g booster heaters and duplication of kit e.g expansion vessel. I would just go for a standard heat pump stand-alone unvented cylinder. A standard unvented cylinder will be more compact and take up less space than the ClimateHub and be easier to maintain in the future.

Both the ClimateHub and a standard cylinder will be unvented which means you will get mains hot water pressure, so no need for a shower power, and it doesn’t matter where the cylinder is located in the house. Unvented cylinders are not dependent on gravity to deliver water pressure, the pressure comes from the mains.

I would recommend fitting Homley with the Samsung heat pump, since the inbuilt Samsung controller is not great. If you’re fitting Homely the Samsung WiFi controller is not required, the Samsung app is poor compared to Homely.
