I have a Midea R290 heat pump and using an RS485 interface to directly get values for cumulative electric use kWh (heatpump_elec_kwh=1030) and cumulative heat output in kWh (heatpump_heat_kwh=3668) as shown below. These values are for the lifetime of the machine, since it was installed in Nov 2025, not from when I started logging data from 3 Jan 2026.
I am expecting this to yield a COP of 3668/1030=3.56. However under heading “TOTAL SINCE: 3 Jan 2026” shows “Total Electricity input” of 575 kWh, “Total Heat output” of 1377 kWh, and SCOP of 2.4 as show below.
How are these values calculated?
