Heat pumps are horrendously inefficient...says The Telegraph

I must be doing something very wrong. I can’t get figures anywhere near as bad as this case study. Maybe my heat pump is faulty? Or maybe it is because I had my system professionally specified and installed?

Or maybe it’s because you have no interest in selling copies of The Telegraph

As Ian Hislop might say - what do you expect from the Torygraph?

You will just have to try harder  More FUD from fossil fuel industry funded media.

Mr Coombes ought to join this forum. And or call Heat Geek! I don’t know anything about delonghi heat pumps. But there will always be examples of poor performance. But I was stunned that he has an EPC of Almost A and doubly so if his system is so inefficient. I had my EPC redone this week and I was very disappointed when they rated my DHW poor. They said it was based on the information they hold on Daikin. Would love to hear from others if they’ve had an EPC done post heat pump install and what grading comments they got. I did get good for the Heatpump.

This deLonghi ashp is in a highly insulated house in Shropshire too! Small world!

Yes, ours dropped from a D pre-solar, batteries and heat pump (on gas) , old 80s double glazing to an E post all that work plus new triple glazing.

EPC for older properties is not fit for purpose in the decarbonised world. There is a new scheme in the works but who knows when that’ll arrive.

I’d want a 2nd opinion on that rating!

@chrisg chris that’s crazy. I did note that against heat pump it’s showing warm air. Now that is incorrect, I believe as you have radiators. I think that as @HeatStig said, you should get a second opinion. You should initially go back to the assessor’s company and query it. I had a long conversation with the assessor company and it became clear to me that they are required to use generic info it is NOT home specific. So if my heat pump is good so must yours be. What company was it you used?

I’ve just remembered that the EPC was done post solar, triple glazing etc but pre ASHP. The warm air refers to 5 minisplit AC units we were using for heating (and cooling). I wonder if I had an EPC done today if the rating would be different.

I think it should be. And a better result too.
