Extending cable from hot water diverter sensor

Hi all.

I need to extend the cable between my hot water diverter sensor and my emonPi. What cable should be used for this?

The installation guide states what cable to use if extending the modbus cable from the electrical meter and the M-bus cable from the heat meter (different cables recommended for both) but nothing about the hot water diverter

Cheers

Morning Brian,

I extended my 3-way motorised valve sensor to my emonHP by about 15 metres using an existing cat5 cable which just happened to have convenient end-points in the house

I guess cat5 cable is a bit borderline for resistance / voltage drop because although it buzzed out for continuity it didn’t work as a data extender until I used more than one core for each connection.

But it’s been rock-solid for 18-months.

Hope this helps,

David.

Thanks David

Was thinking the same myself. Will give that a go

It’s a digital signal 3.3V / 0C so there’s no special requirements. Three-core lighting flex, CAT5 or even T&E will work fine. This is the cable we use: https://cpc.farnell.com/pro-power/ppb0098/cable-7-0-20mm-3c-unscreened-100m/dp/CB23711
