EmonTX working as node 15, no labels

Either i’ve missed a step in config or understanding or something is a tad bust!

I’ve added an emontx which auto populates as node 15 but none of the inputs have labels other than RSSI and none of them have sensible values. I would have thought that even without a label, I would have been able to identify VRMS but no.

Can anyone point me in which direction I might have failed please?

You will have to tell us what your setup is. Is it a new TX, do you have an EmonPi or and EmonBase or are you using the EmonESP?

Where is the Emoncms instance located? Is it a fresh install?

Likely to be emonhub not decoding the data correctly.

It looks as if “whitening” is wrong to start with.

Sight of what your Node 15 definition in emonhub.conf is will help, as will a complete capture of the Node 15 transmission as seen in the emonhub log.

This is a new TX to an existing EmonPi which has been running for a few years. I did update via the webUI. Versions as follows:-

Emoncms is on the Pi, it’s not a fresh install.
I agree that it’s not decoding the data which if I look at what’s inbound from Emonhub is this:-

2022-10-07 19:28:53,744 DEBUG    RFM2Pi     100 From Node : 15
2022-10-07 19:28:53,744 DEBUG    RFM2Pi     100    Values : [21957, 21845, 14150, 21846, 21845, 21845, 21845, 21844, 21845, 21845, 21845, 21845, 21845, 21845, 21845, 8293, 8293, 8293, 21844, 21845]

2022-10-07 19:28:53,746 DEBUG    RFM2Pi     100 Sent to channel(end)' : ToEmonCMS

Assuming that needs further parsing then yes it’s not happening and there’s a something that isn’t happening or that I haven’t done. :slight_smile:

I had lots of nodes which were unused so deleted lots, the template EmonTX ones when looking at the emonhub config documentation looked like it was for a different config? node 8 etc.? Given that I have no node15 config in mine below, it looks like I need to create that in emonhub.conf from the template documentation for an emontx v3.

I’ll do that later, i’m being commanded to go shopping at this time. :slight_smile:
Thanks for asking questions that lead me to look, it has been so reliable that i’ve not touched it so consider me a noob here.

That’s by far the best starting point, because if you get the Node definition out of the emonTx sketch itself, there’s almost a cast-iron guarantee that it’s correct.

Perfect pointers, thanks very much! Following the documentation path to the right part and copied this configuration as implied:-

[[15]]
  nodename = emontx3cm15
  [[[rx]]]
    names = MSG, Vrms, P1, P2, P3, P4, E1, E2, E3, E4, T1, T2, T3, pulse
    datacodes = L,h,h,h,h,h,L,L,L,L,h,h,h,L
    scales = 1,0.01,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,1,0.01,0.01,0.01,1
    units = n,V,W,W,W,W,Wh,Wh,Wh,Wh,C,C,C,p
    whitening = 1

All good now :slight_smile:

I’ve included the wrap up here for reference for anyone else with the same issue.

Cheers
David.
