EmonSD install problems? Apache not starting...?

Hi

So, I have been trying to re-install emon on a a fresh Ubuntu machine as well as using the SD image to run on a PI zero w…

For the SD I tried both Feb 24 and Nov23 versions and both have the same issues. For Ubuntu I used the scripts as per EmonCMS Install Scripts — OpenEnergyMonitor 0.0.1 documentation.

The problem, as far as I can tell (!!): Apache is not starting up. When booting the PI I get an error (image 1 attached). When running apache status, also an error (image 2). When trying to start apache also an error.

I tried to re-install running /main.sh both on the PI and Ubuntu - nada

In the past I have imaged my SD card (or run the ubuntu scripts) without any issues - Has something changed I am not aware of? Could there be an issue w the install scripts, perhaps?

Much appreciated for any directions! Its been a week of not receiving any data!! :frowning:

P

Hello @phamiltonsmith what do you see in the apache2 error log? Try:

tail -f /var/log/apache2/error.log -n 200

and:

tail -f /var/log/emoncms/apache2-error.log -n 200

Which Pi Zero? It doesn’t work on a PiZero 1 (wrong architecture) as per the docs. emonSD Download — OpenEnergyMonitor 0.0.1 documentation

For Ubuntu - there are a number of threads about issues with Ubuntu recently.

I am using a R PiZero W V1.1… I have been able to use it in the past… Not to say it has not changed and now incompatible…!

Ill look for the threads regarding Ubuntu - Tks!

@TrystanLea

tail -f /var/log/apache2/error.log -n 200 <<< Nothing in the file

tail -f /var/log/emoncms/apache2-error.log -n 200 << see atached image

Tks in advance!
P

I thought we had reached a conclusion that it didn’t work on a PiZ1, but this thread suggests otherwise. Does this even work on a Raspberry Zero !? - Hardware - OpenEnergyMonitor Community

Equally, I think you have to build from the scripts rather than the SDImage (because of the different hardware).

I also had issues with the Wi-Fi module so set the Wi-Fi up in the Raspberry flash utility and then edit the script to not load that emoncms Module.

You may need Bullseye rather than Bookworm.

@borpin After reading your post I decided I will try my luck on a RPi 4… I will be receiving it in the next couple of days… If it works there then, as you say, its most probably, the device…

Looks as though I am trying to “force things” to work on older hw…

On my Ubuntu machine I have not given up - yet! and testing a few other ideas! I kinda liked having EMON running on Ubuntu…

Tks

Yes, it should run fine. If I get some time I’ll fire up a new LXC and see what happens.

@borpin Tks for the reply… however… this is what i get on my Ubuntu machine now…

I have tried w/ Ubuntu 24.04 LTS as well as Ubuntu 18.04 (I tried an older version just in case some "newer: sw was incompatible w EMON)

I feel like a complete beginner!! I have installed EMON on Ubuntu many times before without any hickups!!! grrrr

Any pointers much appreciated!!

I gave up trying to instal on Rpi zero W as well as Ubuntu…

Installed on a Rpi 4
