Emonpi3, availability and 12 channel version

Hi - just wondering if there’s an ETA on the emonpi3 and if it’s going to support 12 channels like the emonpi2?

Yes, it should be available in early May. We don’t have any plans to manufacture 12 channel expanders since demand has been so low. However, it will be possible to add an emonTx if more than 6 channels are required. That has the advantage of being able to monitor an additional 6 channels in a different location. The emonTx will communicate with the emonPi via 433Mhz wireless.

ah that’s a real shame about the expansion boards. I have an emonTx4 and you’d said there were no expanders for that, and no plans to manufacture them - but I’d hoped it’d be different for the emonPi3.

I currently have an emonPi and having had a new consumer unit installed with current sensing in mind I was keen to monitor each circuit (which is 10). Whilst I appreciate I can get 12 channels by upgrading the emonPi to an emonPi3 and then using the emonTx4 I have.. I was going to sell my old setup to cover the cost of a 12 channel emonPi3!

@glyn.hudson - would the expansion board for the emonTx5 work on the emonTx4?

Hi Glynn, will the TX have an Ethernet port in addition to the 433mhz radio?

any update on availability of the emonPi3?

Hi Mark - while OEM won’t, for the time being, stock expanders there are design files available for the expander board to use with the Pi3. I’ve made a couple, obviously they’re fairly expensive in low volumes.

@grod55 the emonTx does not have an Ethernet port, but the emonPi will do when using a full Raspberry Pi. Still looking at early May, as far as I know.
