I have emonPi2s and TX5s. Will it be possible to DIY upgrade the hardware? is this worth it?
Just in case this isn’t clear, by DIY upgrade, I mean keep the old shells, buy new boards from openenergymonitor, and put them in the old cases.
Hi - unless you are missing some functionality on your Pi2/Tx5, bumping up to the Pi3/Tx6 probably isn’t worthwhile. I initially designed it to upgrade to a modern core as @Robert.Wall was running out of processing capacity on the AVR and move away from Arduino in general. Is there anything specific that you’re looking for?
However, to answer your specific questions. It is compatible with the existing casing options (you may have to trim one of the holes in the fascia to fit a different sized RJ45). I don’t know if OEM will offer it as a bare board, best to ask the shop ![]()
I don’t have a specific gap at the moment. I’m revisiting all my kit because I’m able to get so much more out of it now - owing to llm programming of it. It turns out that I can’t really squeeze much more performance out of my system but I wouldn’t know that without the data that emon provides
