emonHP How to update local IP address

HI how do I log into my local ip address running emoncms

I lost password

I want to change the IP address of the device to something else and make it static. Need root password I believe

It looks as if you’ve conflated two problems, I’m not sure what you’ve done or are trying to do.

First, your router usually assigns the IP address when you connect your (I presume) emonPi. You can find what that is by logging in to your router and seeing which devices are connected to it. You make it static in the router.

Are you also saying you’ve forgotten/lost your password to log in to emonCMS? If so, look here: Troubleshooting — OpenEnergyMonitor 0.0.1 documentation

I have no access to ssh to fix the IP address to a specific IP.

I wish to put this IP on a managed switch in a IOT VLAN and want to assign it a Static IP address, this is possible rather than have the router issue a IP via DHCP. The IP address that this monitor has is inside the range for DHCP, hence I want to move it outside that range where it’s static.

Hope that clears it up. But at moment I have either set and forgot the pi password ( or cannot find it in my password manager under EMONCMS) or its set to some default like pi / raspberry for example. But them passwords are not working for me.

We are talking about an emonPi?

Do you mean SSH is not enabled? If this is the case, you can enable it with the front panel menu, navigating with the push-button on the emonPi; or you can add a file to your SD card: emonSD Download — OpenEnergyMonitor 0.0.1 documentation. If you can’t do this, then you can edit the DHCP config file directly on the SD card, as per this page: Connect — OpenEnergyMonitor 0.0.1 documentation

The emonCMS user name and password, the Raspberry Pi user name and password, the SSH username and password, the MQTT username and password, the MySQL username and password, and the WiFi username and password are all different. You set the emonCMS user name and password when you first started emonCMS, there is no default. For the defaults for all the rest, look at the emonSD downloads page and the version you have.

As Robert mentioned have a look at the SD images - example emonSD Download — OpenEnergyMonitor 0.0.1 documentation

Each password is listed.

You can edit the pi password file eg:

Good luck

Dave

We don’t even have it confirmed that it is a Raspberry Pi that emonCMS is running on…

It is a Pi

Thanks for your responses. I will head out to the garage in the morning and go check

Kind regards
Justin

I don’t see any option to get to a card reader

It would have been most helpful if you had said right at the beginning that it was in fact a heat pump monitor.

A heat pump monitor yes with a local IP address in the range of my DHCP allocations

It is easier I find to configure the router to allocate the same address to the pi; I have quite a few static addresses on my network allocated via my Draytek router.

The Heatpump Monitor has a different password to the standard emonPi/emonCMS, because on-line support is included in the purchase price. Your password should be on the printed sheet that came with the Heatpump Monitor.

I gather not every make/model of router allows this.

The IP address is assigned by DHCP via the router, rather than set a static IP it’s best to reserve / pin the assigned IP address. This can be done via the routers web config. Every router should have this function.

Please email the shop to obtain the SSH password for your unit. Although connecting via SSH is not required to do this: [email protected]
