EmonHP hangs or loses contact with remote

Periodically, my emonHP either hangs or loses contact with the remote site. Here’s a recent example. When I spot this, I power-cycle the emonHP and it picks up. Any ideas?

Is the system connected via WiFi or Ethernet?

Is this system on HeatPumpMonitor? If so, what’s the system ID?

Hi Glyn,

I watched your video installing the Grant 290 9kw at your home numerous times. We installed the same unit as advised by Tom Clark, Asset Plumbing and Heating who I believe you know.

It is WiFi. Nothing else dropped out including the Grant itself to ecoNet sitting right beside it.

It has happened twice now: between July 5 and July 7 (I wasn’t watching closely enough then) and from about midnight on July 19 (I spotted that the next morning).

Id is 1205.

Thanks,

John

Ah ok, I’ve had a look at the data. The WiFi signal strength is poor, it’s reporting only -73dBm. This will be the issue, the WiFi is occasionally dropping. I would recommend trying to hard-wire it via Ethernet, or using a power line Ethernet extender to hard-wire without having to run a cable:

Where can the signal strength be seen on the EmonHP? I looked under Inputs, Network and Sync but could not see it.

Also, is the single ariel used for both the WiFi and the indoor thermostat?

Thanks,

John

It’s displayed on the LCD, but not in dBm.

No, the antenna is for the 433Mhz emonTH

Found it. RSSI under emonth2_23.

That’s the signal strength of the emonTH indoor temp sensor. That’s not the WiFi strength which is the issue here.
