Emoncms keeps stopping with recent updates

Hello @RichardinCancale that’s a really useful clue, but I still cant quite track this down.

A copy of emonhub.log would be great, could you also try running these and let me know the result:

sudo ls -l /proc/$(pgrep -f emonhub.py)/fd
grep -c "restarting radio" /var/log/emonhub/emonhub.log
grep -c "thread is dead" /var/log/emonhub/emonhub.log
dpkg -l | grep -i gpio

Hi - I see that ‘No radio packets received for 300 seconds, restarting radio message’ every 5 minutes, there are 22 occurrences in the log file.

There are zero ‘thread is dead’ occurrences.

Thanks, what did you get with:

sudo ls -l /proc/$(pgrep -f emonhub.py)/fd

Hello @RichardinCancale could you try version 2.8.4 of emonhub now available to update. I hope this fix will fix it for you (full details RFM69: close the previous radio on watchdog restart · openenergymonitor/emonhub@19ef13d · GitHub)

Thanks! I just did an ‘update all’ with the Stable branch - will that pick it up? EmonHub Config says v2.2.0 which is obviously not 2.8.4 - but maybe that’s not the same component?

I think this was the issue i’ve been struggling with too! It was affecting two units that use USB only and not the radio. They were both restarting radio every few minutes and leaving a file handle open, which crashed them both at roughly similar intervals, presumably when hitting a limit for open files. I fixed it (I think) by removing the [[SPI]] radio section but it looks like this should fix it properly next time I update. Thank you!

@RichardinCancale should show in Admin > Components here:

OK thanks - it doesn’t look quite the same on my screen, doesn’t show the module names, just a link symbol, maybe because my Emon doesn’t have internet access. Anyway the bottom entry shows 2.8.4 and if I click on the link I can open GitHub on the Emonhub module!
So now we get to wait and see - but assuming you and Claud know what you’re doing it sounds feasible that this was the root cause - and ChrisColtCC seems to have found the same issue and fixed it in a different way.
Thanks for the time you spent chasing this!

Scroll left (or right depending on how you view horizontal scrolling)

The Symbol is the collapsed left menu not related to the page content.

May be a bug from recent updates if it doesn’t scroll.

It is, I will fix!

I was just going to add that on a Mac with Safari it does work and shows the full names to the left. On iPhone using both Safari and Chrome it only shows the first letter of the module name when held in landscape, or nothing at all in portrait.

This is now fixed in the latest release v12.1.7. The admin components page shows the component name on small screens as it should.
