Electrician costs / Consumer unit

Hi,

Totally new here but v excited about getting more detailed monitoring of my energy consumption.

Has anyone recently had an electrician open their consumer unit up to fit the clamps? And if so, what was the cost of the work? Was it easy to arrange?

I’m based in London, if it helps. I’m comfortable with the rest of the setup, its just this step which is tricky

Thanks for your help!

You only need to do this if you are wanting to measure the individual circuits. Cost will depend on the age of the consumer unit to some extent and how well it was installed in the first place.

Any links to the types of clamps? Might be interested in fitting.

Thanks - I’m definitely interested in the individual circuits as I have aggregate info from the smart meter, plus oven and heating are the big drains I’d like to know more about.

The clamps are like this: Voltage O/P: 20A Clip-on CT - Shop | OpenEnergyMonitor

i.e. they clip round the wires rather than needing the wires to be disconnected, threaded through and reconnected to the CU.

The correct name is “split-core current transformer”. They are NOT clamps, those are what carpenters and metalworkers use.
