Ecodan outdoor temperature sensor possible feedback

Good Morning!

Firstly I’d like to thank Trystan for setting me up with emoncms using only the native Melcloud data, much appreciated!

I have noticed in the very cold weather that the outdoor temperature sensor appears to fluctuate with defrost cycles. I am wondering if this is having an impact on the how the heatpump behaves. See here: Emoncms - app view

Does anyone know if it is possible to connect an additional outdoor sensor? or if I could move the existing sensor? It looks like the unit is creating it’s own microclimate which affects the readings. But if it makes it’s own microclimate then perhaps it’s important that the sensor stays inside it.
Or maybe it’s not worth worrying about.

Thanks,

Robyn

Welcome aboard the emoncms train!

The sensor is tied to the back of the unit, so it does pick up the wave of heat from each defrost. Mine does the same.

I don’t think it has any impact on the running of the heatpump.

I shouldnt take all the credit here, @Timbones did most of the work, he configured and is running the code that’s actually polling your melcloud account

Thank you @Timbones !

I’ll have to invest in the monitoring kit sooner rather than later!

Good to see similar behaviour elsewhere, thanks for sharing.
