Daikin Altherma 3 6kW settings

Hi everyone,

I just got my Daikin 6kW heat pump installed by Octopus.

I bought an open energy monitor kit but since Octopus didn’t want to install it, I haven’t added it yet.

I have tried to read as many things as possible and watched a few videos, but I am still a bit confused of the best settings. Thus, looking your input.

I have been experimenting a bit with various WD curves and dt settings but can’t decide what is best.

I am running on pure weather dependent curve.

Should I aim for low dt or better for lower energy consumption?

Currently I monitor the energy draw by a shelly EM (since form what I read Daikin readings are inaccurate).
When I use a dt of 9 the power consumption is kinda flat, but if I lower the dt to 5 then it fluctuates, see pics.
Room temperature is pretty much similar in both scenarios.

weather curve is 34@12 and 44@-8
design is 50@-3 with heat loss of 5.2kW (however rads are oversized and should be able to do 40@-3)

Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

which settings are you getting the best COP at ? the daikin mmi cloud based stuff is inaccurate like you said but you should get a idea which has best cop

i use a dt of 5 and use the fan coil setting , and also have a 6kw

do you have any issues with youtr onternal temps or are you happy with both

would be a good idea to employ a plumber to fit your equipment which really helps fine tune our systems and find issues

it intresting that things look more stable with a dt of 10 over 5 as there is a few threads about the stability on here

I thought in MMI I can only see the overall COP from the start. I don’t know the COP of the settings.

No matter what I have tried I only get stable energy consumption (as measured by shelly) when using high dt, such as dt8/9/10.

I will try to get a plumber to connect everything after the holidays.

Can you share your heat loss and WD?

Here is my actual heat loss

The mmi you should be able to to see daily , weekly moonthly and total
split between hot water and heating

And this is my heat curve

@Chris_Hill many thanks!

Definitely I got some ideas of things to try in the following weeks.

So far, no matter what I have tried I can’t get the consumption lower than 600W.

Hopefully I will be able to fully install the heatpump monitoring system as soon as possible.

One last question.

Unfortunately there isn’t enough space to install the heat meter vertically to accommodate for the temperature sensor after the meter, so my only option is horizontally.

The pdf guide reads “If meter is installed horizontally I.e position ‘A’ ensure the meter body is at 45°”. What does this mean exactly. Could someone point me to a picture that shows the meter body at 45°?

Many thanks

I can’t say with confidence that I’m right, but when reading that document my assumption was that just before final tightening of the heat meter nuts in the pipe work you should rotate the heat meter so that the fixing plate for its display is mid way between horizontal and vertical.

Perhaps @TrystanLea can confirm?

This is also my understanding, but I have seen no photos of a heat meter in this position. They always seem to be at 90° in the photos.

Mine is installed just as @dmajwool suggests/as per the instructions
