Could you use the heat pump bundle with gas boiler to size heat pump replacement?

We have a very unusual heating system in that we heat 2 buildings with one gas boiler.
We have a heat main underground between the buildings. The underground pipe work is the same as that at the Centre For Alternative Technology where we got the idea.
Home is a 17th century Cob cottage (listed) and has the hot water tank. The boiler is located in a seperate work space. The heating is all underfloor and split into 7 zones.

Given that a heat pump will be fitted within the next 2 years and we would also add emoncms monitoring could we fit the heat meter now to the gas boiler hot feed (which would be very simple) and use that to establish the heatpump size required?

We have been monitoring the buildings electricity energy with emoncms for the last 10 years.

Absolutely yes. Great way to verify actual heat losses etc.
