Our RHI payments are due to end so the restrictions on cooling are also ending. Given the climate changes, I was wondering about how to achieve cooling with our PV. I understand that hydronic fan units might be a solution. Has anybody tried?
I tried cooling with just rads and underfloor with limited success. I expect a hydronic fan unit to work well.
Having cool floors was really nice during the heatwaves, but you had to lay down to enjoy it, wasn’t enough air mixing to be effective.
It was too humid for the rads to work, caused condensation even with monitoring dewpoint and trying to keep flow temps below it.
Now I have a single mini-split on the upper level to cool and dehumidify. Its not enough for “whole house air-con” but it makes a huge difference, specially now with this summers more frequent and longer heatwaves…
If I could have run insulated pipes up to the second level without opening up all the walls, I would have done hydronic fan unit instead of mini-split. I imagine it would work just as well as the minisplit.
