Dear All
So if I have good understood how it works, the EVSE tells the car the maximum current available, with a minimum limit of 6A.
But if you have a three-phase car, then this minimum is already 4.2kW.
Can we imagine to feed the car with only one phase starting at 6A and then rising the current to 16A and finally if there is enough PV switch to 3 phase restarting at 6A?
Is it allowed?
Regards
Christophe
6A per phase is the lowest charging limit, this will be about 1.4kW for single phase or 4.2KW for three-phase. I’m afraid If your EVSE is wired up for three-phase then you’ll need a contactor to disconnect L2 and L3 to force single-phase to be able to charge lower than 4.2KW. The OpenEVSE will work fine with L2 and L3 disconnected.
No doubt emonEVSE will work well both single and three phase.
My question was how to manage the switching between both system. Shall we do it with charge stopped or not?
There’s no easy way to do this, it will require extra hardware. It’s very important to ensure that a phase is not disconnected under load.
The easiest solution, if you don’t need the higher speed charging from three-phase, would just be to re-wire your EVSE to be connected to a single-phase only.
