2x wires through a single CT?

Hi all,

Currently have a single solar inverter AC connection monitored via CT in my CU. Want to add another distinct solar array on another inverter, and I can co-locate on the adjacent RCBO, just checking that there’s no reason I can’t squeeze both lives through a single CT and have consolidated monitoring? I am running an EmonPi2 and don’t have any capacity for another CT input, and in any case, have no real need for insight on separate solar contribution.

Ta,

Tom

Yes, you can do current “arithmetic “ with a c.t.

You can lay the cable conductors with their current flowing in the same direction for “addition” or in opposite directions for “subtraction”.

With the note that “arithmetic “ is actually vector arithmetic, it still applies to 3-phase and split-phase systems but the result might not be as expected until the phase relationships are considered.
