As Ringi says, I have also seen people report that rattling of the plate where water pipes come into the unit can be a problem. It is not the problem in my case. I would be very interested in a comparison video. I hear a distinct change in the nature of the noise above about 75 rps where a tinny, metallic ticking starts and gets worse the higher the speed.
What about some Mass Loaded Vinyl or Self Adhesive Acoustic Membrane on that plate?
Are all these problem systems connected with copper primary pipework?
Eg is it a resonant frequency issues that will be less common in counties that normally use PERT-AL-PERT pressfit?
My 7kW Arotherm Plus primaries are 32mm plastic/alu, and make zero internal noise or vibration.
Also possible vibrations from primary pipework is making some outside units vibrate.
Makes no difference- we have noisy 7kW on both copper and mlcp
Do you still specify and fit 7kW Arotherm units? If not, which unit in the 7-8kW range do you prefer?
No, we no longer specify 7kW units from Vaillant. We have had a nightmare with poor output and serious noise issues with those units. There is something not quite right with some of them.
Have Vaillant had much to say on the matter? Warranty replacements/repairs?
Do you now just spec a 10kW Arotherm instead?
Did you find the 7kW only noisy at certain compressor speeds?
We hit a pause on fitting 7kW units until this is resolved. Vaillant is investigating it.
Please post any new info from Vaillant if/when you can, it’s very helpful and interesting to hear from an installer’s perspective.
Now that it’s getting colder again at night, I can hear the buzz of the compressor during 80rps defrost. I’ve measured -61dB inside at 82Hz. Outside is -40dB.
Yes, listening to your video, you hear something very similar to me. At low compressor speeds, all sounds normal. At higher speeds, there is a distinct change and there is the buzzing/rattling/ticking of something resonating. In my case, I have identified that is in the compressor assembly itself (not the casing or in the pipework). I have been busy this week, but I will be following up again with Vaillant next week.
Exactly, it’s an annoying buzz like something is loose. I’ll get on to Vaillant myself.
Yeah it sounds completely different, no buzz
So, is the current thinking that the specific type of compressor used in the 7kW units inherently flawed?
It’s probably a defect on some models, if what others have observed is true then the compressor is shaking about in the case.
