The Chiltrix website does suggest you can use Modbus RTU to control and monitor their gear -

MODBUS RTU
This is a RS485 connection that allows a customer-provided controller (based on Arduino, Raspberry Pi, or other) to monitor and control various aspects of operating the heat pump. Contact Chiltrix for details.

John, Josh - thanks, wish I knew this a year ago. I see Chiltrix does have some documentation online, and they also even sell a wireless access point for RS485 communications to chiller and other hardware. I need to study it.
