I don’t know what the right answer is, but a similar discussion took place relating to DietPi The DietPi installation does not follow the *nix Filesystem Hierarchy Standard · Issue #1297 · MichaIng/DietPi · GitHub.
Might be relevant as DietPi does a similar thing for logs (using RAM log).
