It’s raspibackup, I’ve set it to close all the various services down (as far as I’m aware) then restart them but something obviously goes amiss with that so a reboot was the easiest option.
If all you have on the Pi is Emoncms, there is a script specifically to backup. The way you do it, you will inevitably have gaps in your data.
Unfortunately this Pi is doing a number of jobs so I need a full backup, I can tolerate the 10-15 minutes of data loss whilst the backup runs. The OP’s issue with phantom inputs will occur anyway just not as frequently as it does following a reboot.

No, I think it is related to / caused by reboots.
I’ve had it happen numerous times without reboots, before I initiated my current backup regime; however reboots have increased the occurrences by an order of magnitude.
Happening to me too without reboots. I spot it when the MQTT goes down and it’s fixed by deleting the blank feed
