I think in order to meet their claimed accuracy specs, they have to assume totally arbitrary waveforms. Each half-cyle is a brand new day with no relationship to the one before it or after it.

The “1% agreement with the revenue meter over the long term” mob are really saying I’ve no idea how much energy your washing machine used during those 6 minutes but check back in a month and you won’t notice because it’ll have been swamped by all the loads I can measure.

The project I’m currently working on reports energy in WattSeconds and updates its user-facing registers every second so If I’m to have any chance of making any accuracy claims I really need to have measured all 50 (60 for you) cycles, I don’t have the luxury of assuming it’ll all come out in the wash (another lousy pun):
