Samsung R290 remote thermostat operation

I’ve recently replaced a16Kw Samsung ashp for a R290. My original unit controlled heat vis a salus rf unit which allowed me to control room temperature and set schedules.
I have tried to replicate this on the R290 but can’t get it to work, at the end of the day it’s a contact onto B24 to control pump on/off.
The pump is presently operating on z1, the wired remote controller. If I want to use a remote stat is this operating on z2 is the first question, if so do I have to change the following setting to get the pump to work.
Indoor zone option. Zone 2
Zone select. Zone 2
Standard. Temperature

FSV 2092. External stat application FCU

Anyone who has experience of doing this please advise required settings

I was thinking of doing the same with my 8kw R-290 so asked Samsung and got this answer but havent attempted it yet.

If you wanted to utilise a 3rd party thermostat instead this would need to be hard wired back to the heat pump.

Terminals B19 – Neutral

B20 Live

B22 Switch live for call to heat

You would also need to reconfigure some parameters in the service menu.

In field settings, FSV 2091 will need to be set to “use signal only on / off”.

In indoor zone option, standard temperature will need setting to “water outlet”

Thanks for your response Peter, its a pity Samsung cant clarify more clearly the settings for the option of an external stat.
The service settings give the option in 2 locations for operating off zone 2, if I select zone 2 does that mean that zone 1 which I assume is the wired remote controller will be ignored in operation.
Selecting the temperature sensor selection to external temperature sensor seems logical.
Not sure about selecting Standard operation to being the water outlet as I’m trying to control room temperature not water temperature.
FSV 2091 input B22 is for underfloor operation where as FSV 2092 controls radiators.
See what I mean about this option to control your system. Suppose the only way is to try settings makeing a note of what you change so you can go back if it does not work.
What annoys me is that my pump before this one operated with a remote stat and I had made a copy of the settings in it other than the service settings so perhaps those are the ones I should concentrate on.
If I get it working I’ll send a copy of my settings.

My main thoughts are good luck David! I find all the control settings not very logical and complicated so taking pics of what you have changed is essential if you want to get back.

I have mine on weather law with the display stat only as an over temp switch but found it tends to be bit sluggish so I mainly use it as an on-off over temp switch.

I was told that these is an update to make the stat 1degree Hysteresis but it’s not happened so far…

However, overall I find the HP to be quiet and our house has been warmer this winter than for years…all I’ve got to do is finish things off this summer.

Thinking afterwards why not ask your questions to Samsung based on my reply from them with any queries?

In case you do not have any contact info its [email protected]

Hope this helps

This is perhaps not a direct answer to your question, but my Samsung R290 16kw was installed about a week ago with a Homely Controller. With such a limited amount of use in warmish weather I’ve not really been able to give it much of a test, but all seems to be working well. The Homely provides the remote thermostat and scheduling of course…:sun_with_face:

Tony I wonder if you could answer a few questions on the setup to get your system to work on the Homley.
My Samsung before the R290 had an external stat and scheduler called a Salus which had a hard wired heat demand input connected to B24.
I’m having great difficulty being able to replicate this on the mim.
I understand that zone 1 is connected hard wired to the mim, therefore the external thermostat should be zone 2.
Do you know which settings were selected to achieve this.
Not sure if anything in the indoor zone options need changed ie zone selection ( z1 to z2) temperature sensor selection (external).
External room stat settings 2092 #2 fcu set to 1
I have to set 4061 to 1 in order to get an output to run my secondary pump, this gives me zone1 zone2 and dew displayed on my Home Screen, do you have the same.
Bit long winded but if you could identify your setting to operate on your homley that would be useful.
System operates on the mim but it’s located in my down stairs bathroom ( live in a cottage) and would prefer it where it was in the hall and the schuduling was easy to do.
Thanks for your reply David Paterson

Hi David. I’m probably not going to be able to help much as I only have one zone and this was wired by the electrician. Here’s a link to the Homely install manual: Resources | Homely | The Smart Thermostat specifically designed for heat pumps
This may help (page 42), although it doesn’t appear to refer to zoning at all!
It does differentiate between fixed and PWM pumps (page 44), which might give you some pointers?
Good luck
Tony
