I would not trust it when the mains water is stored in chalk for a few years before being used.
The combi care or the water?
Both, it needs a full water softener for that area. Or a planned descaling maintenance program.
(Combi may have a lower risk than a DHW tank. As there is little time for the scale to come out, so a Combi Saver may do something.)
After having to replace the heat exchanger on my then rather large Worcester Bosch combi around 24 years ago, the engineer recommended I fit a water softener as the water here in Dorset is somewhere towards the ‘hard’ end of the scale.
Fitted a high pressure/high flow Kinetico and it’s been brilliant. Zero scale, no maintenance other than adding salt blocks and nicely soft water.
Done the battery thing but I’m curious. Six years ago at the other house I was diverting into the bottom heater of the DHW which had a magnesium sacrificial electrode which is by the way. Anyways what used to happen was our 1999 Atag boiler saw the small temperature rise as Legionaires and performed a 65C heat up. I don’t think I had a top heater. Now no DHW but still got an Atag boiler and use its hot water to save electricity in a novel way. Sorry about your immersion heater problem.
