Evening all do I need to power both the pi and heat monitor board separately or will the power supply to the pi power it all.

Hello @Satwelsh the Pi will power the heat pump monitor HAT just fine. The USB mini connector on the HAT can just be a more convenient place to connect a usb power cable and have that power the Pi instead, but it’s not a requirement.
