We should have working cables in a few weeks
Update 1st Oct:
We’ve finally been sent a working sample cable from the manufacturer, production can now start ![]()
Apologies for how long this took, there’s been some confusion that cost a number of prototypes since Nissan use a mirrored pin numbering on one of the connectors compared to the manufacturer of the connector ![]()
Thanks to feedback from @dmajwool the cable has been lengthened to make it possible to locate the OVMS module in a more convenient location.
This is fantastic news. Hopefully I’ll have remote climate control back in time for the cold months!
One other request: on ZE1 Leafs, you have to disconnect the TCU for OVMS remote climate control to work. But to not lose the microphone, you have to connect a certain wire.
Is there any possiblity you could also manufacture a cable which can be connected between the existing parts which has the microphone wires and not the TCU wires? So that the microphone is retained without having to do permanent modifications?
While we’re requesting additional cables, see the OVMS forum on using the Leaf antenna with the OVMS.
Hi,
That’s not quite correct. You can leave the TCU in-place and connected, but to allow the OVMS remote climate control you must REMOVE two wires from the TCU connector as written in your quote box.
The Nissan TCU is redundant since Nissan has shut down the connectivity services. Therefore, there’s no risk in disconnecting the CAN lines from the TCU. For some bizarre reason Nissan routed the microphone via the TCU, and therefore you will need to lead the other wires of the TCU connected to retain the microphone function.
OVMS will work without this modification, but the OVMS remote climate function requires this mod.
My apologies - that’s what I meant. A short (5cm) cable to go between the two which has only the microphone wires connected would be great, if possible.
@jpx67 What advantage do you see in removing the TCU itself? Why not just leave it where it is and remove those two cores?
It means there won’t be loose wires hanging around anywhere
