OVMS ZE1 (40kWh & 64kWh 2018+) Nissan LEAF CAN tap cable available..soon

Here is another one for the waiting list. thx.

A question: From the picture it looks like the cable has ODB connectors. The OVMS hardware has a DB9 connector. Do you need another cable to connect them? A regular ODB connector cable?

You can’t use the OBD port on the ZE1 Leaf because it’s connected to a CAN gateway which is not powered while the car is turned off

I know that. But the cable pictured by OP in the first post looks like it has ODB connectors instead of a DB9 connector. the OVMS box has a DB9 connector as far as I know. How can you connect the cable pictured to the OVMS box?

Is there any update on this? Really missing the remote features on my Leaf!

I tried to build a cable on my own, but unfortunately something went wrong and the communication to my parking break was lost.

So would like to join the waiting list.

I got everything I needed to make mine. Have you been able to determine what error may have caused this problem?

I guess when I removed the new harness, the connection came back?

UPDATE May 2026: manufacture of the CAN tap cable has not worked out, I’m afraid we don’t have an ETA for when one might be available. Very sorry about this, I will keep you updated.

Hi Glynn,

Are you planning to continue with this project?

Hope so

David.

Oh yes, OVMS is going strong. It’s not my project, there are many contributors. Checkout the github: GitHub - openvehicles/Open-Vehicle-Monitoring-System-3: Open Vehicle Monitoring System - Version 3 · GitHub

Our role is mostly just a reseller, hence why I don’t have direct control over manufacturing.

Can be added to waiting list as well please. Be nice to get back battery level in Home Assistant, and pre-heating functionality before next winter,

Also would be interested.

Thank you for this wonderful project! Can I be added to the waiting list? Thanks.

I’d like to be added to this possible waitlist when available =)

I want to be added to the waiting list. Hoping that it`ll not take too long anymore to be able get the adapter

Good news, we’ve got a working cable! @dmajwool has been testing it. We had some niggles with the initial cable, but these have now been resolved. A batch of cables has now been ordered, I’ll keep you update with the progress. Sorry this took so long, thanks for your patience.

just made a cable because I thought I needed it for our 2018 40kwh E-nv200 but after an hour looking for the CAM gateway, found this thread and read it’s not required - AI hallucinations embedded the idea that I needed the CAM patch cable to get a couple of features working reliably. Also wanted implement a CAM signal to spoof the vehicle to boosting the 12v system to get it to work with Aferiy DC060 charger and charge the P280 battery I’m using in the van (have a sort of work around but not charging when on fast charge network as hope :frowning: ) Anyway if someone wants an untested CAM patch cable…
