Issue with OpenEVSE WiFi V9.0.0 and side HW button

Hello,

I am running OpenEVSE with the latest release 5.1.5 and 9.0.0

The manual button on the side of the EVSE doesn’t do anything anymore while before it was forcing a manual charge override.
Now the only way to start the charge manually is to use the app but this is something my family hate do to.

What id id to troubleshoot:
Tried to short together the two wires from the button… nothing
Downgrade to a 4.1.7 (as it was working in the past)… nothing
Looked at the console while I press the button… nothing shows up
Tried every combination of types of push (once, twice, keeping it pressed etc)… nothing

The two wires go into the display board,
I could order a spare display to replace, but it’s like a blind attempt.

Is there more torubleshooting I could do?
Thank you!

The OpenEVSE controller has a RAPI setting that switches the front panel button off. According to the open_evse rapi_proc.h, “$FF B 0” disables the button and “$FF B 1” enables it. If that was set to 0 at some point, the wires and the display board could be fine and the button would still do nothing. I can’t tell from your post whether that is what happened, so take it as something to rule out: send “$FF B 1” over RAPI and try the button again. The same file lists “$F1” as a command that simulates a short press of the front button, which would show whether the controller reacts to a press without touching the hardware.

Thanks

according to one of the developers on Github:

“The issue is OpenEVSE 9.0.0. In order to make more room for the new features, legacy pre-WiFi features including RTC and Button Menu Features were disabled. If you wish to use the button 8.2.2 is likely the best option.”

I need to give a try downgrading to 8.2.2. but will try your command first.
