Panic over i pluged lap top into the ethernet port got the normal log in screen and was able to change the password and it seems to be working OK now

By far the best way (in my opinion) is to change the SSID and password of your new router to be the same as the old. This way, you don’t have to change SSID & password in everything that uses your Wi-Fi LAN, emonPi included.

If you can’t do this, or you’ve already changed everything else, I think you have two options:

  1. Connect to your router via Ethernet and use Setup → Network and choose your network, then type in the password, or
  2. Take the SD card out and edit the wpa_supplicant file - see Setup WiFi on a Pi Manually using wpa_supplicant.conf - Raspberry Pi Spy

(If you need to move the emonPi, remember to go through the shutdown routine using the button on the front.)

Thank you for your reply I was able to connect by ethernet and log straight in to change my password but next time I will take your advice and keep the router name and password the same.
