ok i have now changed on on heat pump monitor @ 16:51
sorry for high jacking this thread

so hopefully the numbers look like they should , would you mind taking a look to see what you think

cheers for comment steve ,
i have tried both and it depends on the model of heat pump your using looks like this only applies to heat pump 9 kw and over

its makes no difference to the 8kw and below

looks like i can improve it more by adding a other shelly device which i will do in the future

Hi @Timbones

See here for context. (_and also this is the Home Assistant side - well for me personally anyway, as per the guide in another thread I wrote, I’m publishing raw data to EmonCMS and doing the calcs there anyway_)

> @squarepeg77 Yep, came over from ESPAltherma GitHub default. And as you’ve alluded to, it worked and importantly matched separate maths from direct sensors into EmonCMS so didn’t get round to changing it.

Hi @Chris_Hill, that’s interesting: so on the smaller 4/6/8 Daikin models, there is a `Power` (electrical input) metric made available via ESPAltherma?

Have I understood that correctly?

No i would still have to do this with a other device

ive just called up the primary inverter and secondary inverter and to my surprise it is different , so maybe this is something else i need to look in to

Hi Chris,

Do you know how much electricity your heat pump is actually using?

Although I understand the theory of all this I just do it an old fashioned way, with an actual accurate electricity meter.

Are you really trying to work out how much electricity the heat pump is using with data from the heat pump in amps and a voltage detector?

Or have I misunderstood?

this seems to be the common way using espaltherma how ever i can add independent meter with a accurate kwh usage , instead of using instant watts used and heatpump monitor is working kwh from the watt meter

Hi @Chris_Hill

I spent some time looking at this, as did others over on the ESPAltherma GitHub site.

I cover right at the start of the guide ESPAltherma guide I wrote up for this site last year that separate electrical power input monitoring is needed (unfortunately):

> [@Daikin Altherma, ESPAltherma & Home Assistant with OpenEnergyMonitor](https://community.openenergymonitor.org/t/daikin-altherma-espaltherma-home-assistant-with-openenergymonitor/25057/6):
>
> Here is my personal Daikin Altherma → ESPAltherma → Home Assistant → EmonCMS setup: I hope that it is of value to others, but do feel free to modify things, try other things out. I am not stating this is the only way of doing it. In fact, this very site has a [shop which sells billing grade metering options](https://docs.openenergymonitor.org/applications/heatpump.html), which will no doubt be more accurate. I chose to go the ESPAltherma route for a few reasons: can’t find a plumber generally round here willing or wanting(!) to work on a heat pump (hence…

Hopefully you can get a separate monitor and feed it into your setup.

Hi Chris,

So far, I think it looks good.

The heat output is following the changes in flow temperature with a steady return and flow rate.

The heat output looks about right, I haven’t done a calculation.

I think you need to know your actual true electricity consumption and then you can make informed decisions about how you run your heat pump.

I think, so far, your data has been guiding you towards sub 30c flows and I know they don’t work with these heat pumps. Or perhaps I should say, not if best efficiency is your aim.

Yes the home is only requiring low flow temps
Here is my current heat curve ( still a working process )

the electricity usage does appear to be pretty accurate based on other meters i have , unlike the MMI data from daikin which is terribly slow and inacurate

im not going to mess about with which inverter (primary or secondary ) amps until tomorrow or even Wednesday so i get some data through with the current new changes
if you have time i would appreciate your experience if you keep looking at my data and see if its more realistic

Hi Chris,

I only mentioned any of this as you sent a link to your data yesterday, I rarely look at non MID data.

It instantly looked well wrong!

If it looked like it does now, I wouldn’t have thought twice about it.

So yes, it looks much better and what I would expect to see.

Just for your own benefit, I think it would be a good idea to verify the electricity consumption, just so you can get the best out of it.

It should be good in your home, it’s quite a large home for this heat pump so should suit it well.

seems to be quite a difference in the primary and secondary readings so will wait until wednesday following some feed back from @matt-drummer before changing this

I use an electricity meter but my calculated espaltherma power template (which I made before fitting the meter) was fairly close - seems to be a fairly fixed underreporting of 100W. Maybe I need to zoom in to see the irregularities due to PF?

 ![Screenshot_20241209-222118](https://community.openenergymonitor.org/uploads/default/original/3X/0/5/0552c96555ab6042eb0b7d49dab8916fe09e36e7.png)

I use the fan RPM and looked up the replacement fan power, the pump % and the pump power, the primary Inv current with a real voltage value, and backup heater resistance.

I suspect I could calibrate the template to get closer.

Afaik you want primary Inv current - I believe secondary inverter current maybe after a three phase conversion to the compressor feed?

Not sure why anyone gets so hung up on cop and data. At the end of the day the only thing that matters is is it running cheap enough for you
All monitoring is flawed espeacially if you are going by the manufacturers controller
Mine has hrs run per day and sometimes it says it has run for 39 hrs
Also if you look at imput and heat output it worjs out to be a cop of 1500%
I just think if its cheap enough im happy

this is not about the cop this is more about getting to know our heat pumps and what and when things are changing and the reasons why
