Looking at my data the flow rate appears to be all over the place. Looking at the first screenshot the flow rate is very low even when the HP is working. When HP not running the flow rate is up and down like a yo-yo. Checking Daikin data the flow rate should be 15 -21l/m with 21l/m recommended for radiators. Any thoughts what is happening and possible remedies to get a steady higher flow rate
I have a Daikin 8kw , for me and a lot of others flow rate is around 7lm in operation for most of the time after start up
The yo-yo look like you have the Pump operation mode set for Sample rather than request or the pump is running anti freezing cycles if temp is lower than 5 degrees
Thanks for that. I assume I find Pump operation in the installer’s menu?
My Daikin 6kW has a more or less steady flow rate of 7 litres per minute after start-up.
For me this reading comes from the Daikin control panel under Information then sensors, as I do not have OeM flowmeter attached.
I run my system using flow rate temperature control, currently 34C with outside temperature at 0.7C, flow rate reading alternates usually between 6.9 and 7.1, average 7 litres per minute. This is feeding 7 radiators on an open loop system, living room at 21C.
Only time the flow rate changes significantly with me is when heating my Mixergy HWC, where flow rate will peak at 30 litres per minute to Mixergy heat exchange plate.
Are you interrogating your HP through the comms interface ?
Yes, space heating/coolling , pump operation. Option will change depending if system is set up with water leaving temp control.
looking at grath I suspect system is running anti free when HP is not on as it’s cold
I have Emoncms heat pump monitor with flow meter to provide information.
Definitely seeing people with <9kW HP’s getting more stable results. You have the same number of radiators and living room temperature as myself, what electric power are you using? This cold weather I am over 1kW and unable to reduce.
The pump operation mode is set to Request.
Engineer advised you can set it to continuous but you use more energy.
Ok , must be cycling on anti freeze Protection then
Outside temperature here has been just below 1C all day, snow lying, system running continuously at 34C flow control (in practice the system still adjusts for flow between 32.5 and 34.5C) at 7 litres per minute, power used is a fairly steady 650 Watts.
When external temperature was above 1C it was consuming about 570 Watts, above 8C it’s about 400 Watts.
Over past 24 hours it has done 5 defrost cycles (the first since last winter) with 3, 5.5, 2.3 and 5.5 hours between each cycle. The last was triggered after heating HWC to 45C, the HP provided most of the heat with the immersion providing a boost from 43-45C (immersion used 580 Watts).
If I pushed my flow to 38C I would expect consumption to rise to roughly eight or nine hundred Watts (900 when outside dips below -2C give or take).
I have a problem with heatpumpmonitor not polling my data from emoncms, otherwise I would post a link. I’m ‘Other Metering’, Daikin 6kW, Aberdeenshire, British Gas installer if you want to search, I’ve been manually triggering uploads to heatpumpmonitor.
